General Standards

PEN Journal: Primary Education Nexus is a peer-reviewed academic journal that publishes scholarly works in basic education, primary education, primary school teacher education, educational innovation, and classroom-based educational practice. Manuscripts submitted must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere.

The journal accepts original research articles, conceptual papers, literature reviews, case studies, classroom action research, and best practice reports related to primary education.

All manuscripts must follow the journal template and comply with the scope, ethics, and author guidelines of PEN Journal: Primary Education Nexus.

Language

The journal accepts manuscripts in English or Indonesian. Indonesian manuscripts must include title, abstract, and keywords in both languages. English manuscripts must also provide Indonesian versions of abstract and keywords.

Authors are responsible for academic language quality. Poor language quality may lead to revision before review. Language editing does not guarantee acceptance.

Language Style

Use either American or British English consistently. Indonesian manuscripts must follow formal academic Indonesian.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Authors are encouraged to:

  • Include key keywords in the title
  • Avoid overly long titles
  • Use 3–5 keywords
  • Include keywords in the abstract
  • Use keywords in headings when appropriate
  • Ensure alignment between title, abstract, keywords, and content

Manuscript Format

  • A4 paper size
  • 2.5 cm margins
  • Book Antiqua font
  • Title: 12 pt bold
  • Body text: 10 pt
  • Abstract: 9 pt
  • Single spacing
  • Word file (.doc/.docx)
  • 4,000–7,000 words
  • Page numbers included
  • Tables and figures near related text

Authors are encouraged to use the official template.

Title

Titles must be concise, informative, and reflect the manuscript’s main focus. Avoid vague expressions such as “A Study of…” unless clearly specified.

Authors and Affiliations

Author names must be clear without academic titles. Affiliations must include institution and country. The corresponding author must provide an active email.

Abstract

Abstracts must:

  • Be one paragraph
  • Max 250 words
  • Contain background, objective, method, findings, conclusion
  • Contain no citations or undefined abbreviations

Keywords

Provide 3–5 keywords in both English and Indonesian.

Headings

Structure:

  • Introduction
  • Method
  • Results and Discussion
  • Conclusion
  • Acknowledgments

Introduction

Must present background, gap, novelty, and research objectives clearly and argumentatively.

Method

Must include research design, participants, instruments, procedures, analysis, validity, and ethics.

Results and Discussion

Must interpret findings, compare with previous studies, discuss implications, and acknowledge limitations.

Tables and Figures

Must be numbered and referenced. Tables above titles; figures below titles. Must be clear, original, or properly cited.

Conclusion

Must summarize findings, contributions, implications, and future research without introducing new data.

Acknowledgments

For non-author contributors such as funders or institutions.

Author Contributions

Must describe each author’s role.

Funding Statement

Disclose funding or state: “This research received no external funding.”

Conflict of Interest

Declare conflicts or state none.

References

APA 7th Edition style. Prioritize recent journal sources. Use reference managers.

Supplementary Materials

Optional supporting files such as datasets, instruments, or additional figures.

Ethical Requirements

Research involving humans must ensure consent, privacy, and ethical approval when required.

Submission Checklist

Must confirm originality, formatting compliance, ethical approval, plagiarism check, and author agreement.

Final Note

Non-compliant manuscripts may be returned. Publication decisions depend on quality, originality, and contribution.

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.
